Significance of Yellow Color : Basant Panchmi Special

Basant Panchmi also known as Vasant Panchmi, a festival to welcome spring the ‘king of all seasons’ because it means pleasant weather, free from the scorching heat, the cold bites or rains. This festival is celebrated all over the country and has different customs and traditions in different regions. It is one of the most vibrant festivals of India. The word basant means spring and Panchmi means fifth day. Basant Pachmi falls on the fifth day of the Hindu lunar month of magh marking the beginning of winter’s end and coming of spring. Basant Panchmi is considered a very auspicious day for marriages and other auspicious activities like griha pravesh.

Basant Panchmi is celebrated as the birthday of Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, education, art, culture and music. Hence she is worshipped on Basant Panchmi.

Basant Panchmi falls in the spring season and nature is at its best during this season. All around us we find flowers blooming and birds chirping. The nature is permeated by a cheerful and a lovely spirit.

Yellow is the dominant color of this festival. The reason behind is that Basant Panchmi signifies the ripening of fruits and crops. The mustard fields in north India blooms during this season giving a yellow coat to nature. Several spring flowers are yellow across the world including the daffodils. People wear yellow clothes, offer yellow flowers to Goddess and put a yellow turmeric tilak on their forehead. Even the offerings to Goddess Saraswati are usually yellow in color.

Yellow color has a deep impact on our health too. Yellow is the color of optimism, brightness, cheery attitude and mental clarity. Yellow can be helpful in easing depression and encouraging laughter.

Sunlight

Nothing is more important to us on Earth than the Sun. sunlight is essential for human health and well-being. The health benefits of sunlight include generating the production of vitamin D, supporting bone health, lowering blood pressure, preventing disease, and prompting good mental health. Vitamin D is essential to the body. It promotes the absorption of calcium and yellow sunlight is the prominent source of vitamin D. The sun not only boosts your mood and can be an effective part of treatment for depression, but it rays have noticeable benefits for our physical well-being. But excess sun exposure is linked with increased skin cancer risk. So don’t stay outside too long without sunscreen.

Sunflower



The special thing about sunflower is that this flower revolves around the sun, wherever the sun rotates, hence its name is sunflower. Sunflower is attractive but it does not have any fragrance. Sunflower is used for many types of medicines in Ayurveda. Big nutrients come in small packages. Sunflower seeds are one such type of seeds that is loaded with high quality nutrients like Vitamin B1, B3, B6, Magnesium, Phosphorous, and Protein. Sunflower seeds are good for digestion as they are rich in dietary fiber. It increases energy level and good for muscles and bones too.

Marigold


Marigold flower is beautiful and attractive and sometimes it is addressed as ‘the happiness flower’. The main use of this flower is to make decorations. This flower is also used for worship in temples. Its bright yellow/orange color signifies energy of the sun, a source of vitality, vividness and energy.

Marigold flowers are very beneficial for skin related diseases. It is used in medicines that act on skin inflammation. Antioxidants and vitamin C are found in rich amounts in marigold flower. Calendula oil is distilled from the flower tops of marigold and has similar medicinal properties as the flower itself.

Turmeric

Lemon
