Improve Your Health- Few lessons from the Life of Ravana

Dussehra represents the glory of victory of good over evil.  We celebrate Dussehra every year to educate our generations to differentiate between right and wrong or Dharm and Adharm so that they can live a successful life. In our desire for a successful life, we should not forget that a healthy body is the foundation of all the success we achieve in our life.

Covid 19 has made us learn the value of our health. Money, high status nothing worked in the devastating waves of corona virus.

Though Ravana was a bad guy, he is considered as one of the best scholor of his time. But when it comes to learn something from Ravana, we only take life lessons from him to be wealthy and successful in our life. In spite of wealth, strength and power, we can learn some lessons from the life of Ravana to improve our health also.

We can take these lessons to improve our health from the life of Ravana:

Don't underestimate even the minor problems

Ravana was such a powerful warrior that once Ravana had taken Shanidev captive. Then lord Hanuman rescues him. Despite this he lost to Lord Rama. Ravana performed penance to get a boon from Lord Brahma that except a human, nobody could kill him because he thought humans are not powerful enough to fight with him. But he was wrong.

Unlike Ravan, when it comes to health, we should not ignore even the smallest problems. No major disease happens immediately. So don’t avoid or neglect even the minor changes or problems in your body.

Listen to your body

Ravana thought of himself as superior from anyone else. He didn’t listen to anyone. When someone advises, at least care to listen. Ravana didn’t listen to his brother Vibhishan’s advice; instead he threw his brother out of Lanka. Everyone knows its consequences.

When we talk about any health issue, we must listen to our body. Our body indicates time to time if it is suffering any issue. Like fractures are common when bones are weak or it has Vitamin D deficiency. You will experience shortness of breath if your lungs are not working properly. You may experience headache frequently or dizziness if there is a neuro problem and so on. If there is a problem in your body it will give you indications. Don’t avoid them.

Know when to stop

Ravan’s ego was bigger than him. He abducted Sita. Rama waged war against him and killed his warriors, brothers and sons. Even then he did not leave Sita. He himself is responsible for the downfall of his entire family.

Ravana was under the control of his ego, so he did not know where to stop. But when we talk about health, we should know where to stop for our good health. We should know where to stop while eating. We should know where to stop while over thinking to avoid depression for the sake of our mental health. We know that depression is the biggest enemy of our mental health.

Do not blindly follow to anything

Ravana never listened to anyone else's advice. But he was obeyed by everyone in Lanka except his brother Vibhishan. Kumbhkaran, Ravana's brother, who was as powerful as him, respected him and followed his instructions blindly. Though he stopped him to get fought against Rama and advised him to leave Sita, Ravana ordered him to fight against Rama. He did so and killed by Lord Rama.

Unlike Ravana's brothers and warriors, listen to everyone but don't follow them blindly. Use your brain even in the context of your health.

If any kind of diet or exercise is good for a person, doesn't mean that same diet or same exercise schedule will work for you in the same way. Find out a diet or exercise as per your body and follow it. It would be better for your body and health rather than follow others blindly.

Dedicate yourself towards your goals

We know that how important is to be dedicated towards our goals to achieve them. Ravana had the quality of being dedicated towards his goal. Though his goals were against of mankind and that is the reason that he didn't achieve his goal to attain Sita. But the virtue of dedication is something everyone should learn.

If you want to live a healthy life, you should be indulged some healthy habits in your daily life and perform them dedicatedly.

Don’t wait for the right time

Ravana was so keen to attain Sita that he created the situation with the help of his elusive power and created the illusion of a gold dear that Sita yearned to get him and sent Rama and Laxman after it. Ravana took advantage of this situation and abduct her.

Though Ravana did it to fulfill his evil desires, he didn't wait for the right time but create a situation that favorable for him.

We should not wait for the right time to start those activities which are essentials for our health. Instead of always saying that there is no time, we should take out time for our health.

A little change in your lifestyle can do wonder for your health.

I am not an admirer of Ravana. I am not saying to follow Ravana’s bad deeds. What I am trying to say that if we want to learn something which is useful and helpful for us, we can learn it even from other mistakes.

Ravana did many mistakes in his life. We can learn a lot from his mistakes and use them in our life in a positive way.

Dussehra and Vijayadashami both celebrate the victory of good over evil and signify a man's need to overcome fear, greed and negative thinking and move towards positive thoughts and deeds. We can also apply these thoughts to obtain a healthy life which is our greatest need at the moment.

These all are my thoughts. In my opinion our festivals are full of good lessons; you just need to recognize them. What do you think about it tell us in the comment section.
