Diwali- the real meaning of festival of light

Diwali, the festival of light, the most awaited festival by all of us, brings happiness and prosperity with it. Everyone celebrate Diwali with zeal to mark the arrival of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshman back to Ayodhya after an exile period of 14 years.

Have you ever wondered that why we celebrate Diwali or any other festival?  What is the real meaning of festivals? Is it only the celebration of eating delicious delicacies or something else? What we learn from these festivals? (I am not talking about the spiritual lessons). Who made these festivals and why?

The customs of celebrating Diwali may be different in every house, but the preparations for Diwali are the same in almost all the houses like cleaning the house properly, making sweets for the guests or buying new things.  If anyone understands, every practice of Diwali has a deep meaning.

Deep cleaning

To welcome goddess Laxmi, we make are home Diwali ready and clean every nook and corner of our home.

Just like our home we should clean every nook and corner of heart and mind too from all negativity, bad habits, anger, hate and jealousy.

Over the time our heart is filled with above negative things. In Diwali when we declutter our house properly, also declutter these stuffs from your heart and mind.

Lighting of diyas

Diwali is considered as a row of lights. The real beauty of Diwali is in the lighting of diyas. It is celebrated on the night of new moon. We light diyas and lamps to remove the darkness of night but we forget to remove the darkness of our soul.

The real message of Diwali is to remove our internal darkness of negativity and lit the light of hope and positivity.

Value of family and friends

Not only Diwali but also other festivals give happiness when they are celebrated with family and friends. Diwali brings together even people who have lost touch or not kept in touch all year around.

The festival of light teaches us the value of our family and friends. We need our near and dear ones to celebrate even the smallest happiness. There is no joy of anything if we can’t share it with our loved ones. Every day of life seems like Diwali, if we have our family and friends with us.

Joy of sharing

Diwali is all about the sharing. There is a trend on Diwali to give and receive sweets on that day. This leads to lot of joy and festivity in the air. It also signifies us to share some happiness with the less privileged people.

Buying things for people who work for us or for poor people will bring smile to their faces and their Diwali will also be sweet and memorable.

The purpose of celebrating festivals is to make people around us happy. Diwali is the time when we indulge in such generous acts.

Importance of planning

Diwali is the festival of five days long. If want to celebrate Diwali without any hustle we need to plan beforehand. Festivals, especially Diwali need several preparations which can be done properly only with planning.

How would you like to decorate your house for the festival, what delicacies you want to make, everything needs proper planning to avoid last time hustle. This shows the value of planning.

Planning plays a very important role in our life. If we have planned properly, it gives a boost to our confidence.

Connect with your root

During the days of Diwali, when we are doing preparation to celebrate the festival of light, we often reminds our childhood Diwali and tell to our kids stories which are connected to Diwali. By doing this we are actually connecting our kids to our roots.

We follow our traditions and maintain them because they bring meaning to celebrations and foster special bonds. Traditions help to bind us together as a family. It also gives an opportunity for children to seek the blessings of elders and learn to respect them.

It is very important to connect with your roots and heritage and our festivals do this job very well. When we do Diwali puja with our family, we get a glimpse of our great heritage. Even when we make our traditional sweets on festivals, our children get to know about our rituals and customs.

Every person is important

Every person in this world has its own importance and I think festivals are made to make us understand this tiny thing.

During the days of Diwali when we have a laden of work load and we need help. It makes us realize that everyone has its own value and we should admire it.

Buy new things

This is a ritual to buy new things on Dhanteras. We purchase new clothes and new utensils on this day. It is considered very auspicious.

It signifies that it's never too late to start afresh and make a new beginning. We should never give up, no matter how bad your today is, you always have a chance to make a better tomorrow, every day is the new beginning with new opportunities just grab it.

Fireworks

I am not going in the argument on crackers. Though bursting crackers is a hazard to environment, celebration with crackers is a personal choice.

It is recognized that bursting crackers during Diwali signifies that the sound scars away evil spirits. Some people tell from mythology and say celebrating with crackers marks the triumph of good over evil.

Make a house a home

Diwali is the time to get into the mood for preparing the house for this festive season. Decorating the house for Diwali is a family affair which brings everyone together in good spirits to start energizing the house with positive vibes.

Our ancestors were very smart. They make these festivals to make us learn important lessons of life. Every festival every occasion teaches us similar lessons that we just need to be together and should spread happiness with each other. Spreading happiness, joy and smile is the best gift we can give to other.

May this festival of light sparkle your life with joy and happiness. # Happy Diwali#
