11 essential life skills you should teach your kids

To live a better and happy life, we must have some life skills. As parents, we wish to inculcate certain characteristics in our children so that they live their life well. Often parents think that their child is not old enough or he doesn't need any of these life skills for now. When he grows up, he will learn on his own. Your thinking is wrong. Children are capable of learning much more than you think and this is the age when you can inculcate good habits in the child. It is also said that children are like clay. You can mould them in any shape. But when children grow up, it is very difficult for them to learn or adapt to any new thing.

If you also want your children to be successful and happy in life, then you must teach them some life skills from childhood. So, today we are telling you about those life skills, which you must teach your children:

Decision-making ability

This life skill is needed by the child at every step of his life, whether it is about the selection of friends, studies or career. Therefore, it would be better if you teach them to make their own decisions from childhood itself. The decisions to be taken are not necessarily very difficult. In the beginning, you let them make small decisions. Like what clothes will he wear or what game does he want to play? This instils confidence in the child and he learns to make his own decisions.

Health and hygiene

A person can taste success only when his body supports him in this. We all tell children from childhood to brush, bathe or wash hands, but never tell the reason behind it to the children. Due to this, the life skill of hygiene is not developed. So if you are asking your child to do something, tell them the reason for it. Also, explain how important it is to take care of health and that they can do so easily through hygiene.

Time management

You must be aware that how important it is to come to time management to lead a stress-free and successful life. You should develop this life skill within the child as well. In the beginning, you ask the child to make a timetable, in which he writes what work he has to do today and in how much time he will do it. Initially, he may not be able to work within the time limit, but gradually he will come to manage the time.

Money management

Like time, children should also know how to manage money. If he knows how to manage money, then he will come out of the difficult phase of his life without any problem. For this, you bring the child a piggy bank and ask them to add some money every day. If he wants to get a toy or thing, let him add money to the piggy bank instead of getting it directly. When enough money is added to get that thing, then you bring it to them. With this, children will know the importance of money and they will also learn to manage money.

Self-dependent

This may not go unnoticed by you, but the child should be taught this life skill from a very young age. For example, he should come from school and change his clothes himself and keep his belongings in the right place. This may seem like a small thing, but in this way, the child starts living a restrained life. This is his first step toward becoming truly self-reliant. When a child learns to take care of himself, it eases a lot of his troubles.

Cooking skills

Parents can also teach their children cooking skills by playing games. For example, tasks like making breakfast, cutting vegetables, making tea, and making roti can be taught easily. Children will also enjoy this work. If they will have the habit of cooking, cleaning the house and if they are going to another place for studies, children will not face any problems related to it.

Social skills

One of the basic life skills that should be taught to a child when he is a toddler is the importance of being social. Let your child learn to play well with other kids so that he will be able to handle teamwork successfully and interact with others more efficiently.

Facing emergency

Many times when an unwanted accident happens, children do not know how to deal with it. In such a situation the child gets nervous. Parents should teach their children to deal with emergencies at an early age. For example, in case of a fire in the house due to a short circuit, the child should be taught not to pour water on it to extinguish the fire. This could result in an electric shock, and something untoward could happen. Instead, they should know how to turn off the mains. Similarly, the child should be taught that in case of an earthquake, what to do or in case of sudden illness of a member of the household, how to use the first aid box, all this should be taught.

Self-defence knowledge

The child has to go out alone to do his activities or play. In such a situation, they may encounter unknown anti-social people, who do not have good intentions. In such a situation, the child should be told that he has to talk to an unknown person within a limit. Do not share your things. Apart from this, to avoid untoward incidents, the child must be taught self-defence techniques from childhood.

Teach them to respect others

Children may become intelligent by memorizing all the facts and theories during studies, but if they do not have some practical things, then success in life can be difficult for them. The most important of this practical wisdom is to respect others. Teach children to respect parents, elders, younger ones, teachers and their siblings from childhood. Apart from this, one important thing that you should always teach your children is to respect the opposite gender and treat them as your own. These skills will prove to be very helpful for the child in the future in interacting with people and creating a path of success for himself.

 Teach to relax

Till today I have seen parents teaching their children how to read, but not teaching them how to relax and be happy. All the research shows that most of the children who suffer from stress, depression etc. at a young age are due to their own families. Therefore, along with studies, tell the children how to be relaxed and tips to be happy. Inspire them to listen to music, read stories, play outdoor games and socialize with people.

It's very essential to teach our children these life skills so that they may be confident in their values and talents.
