How to expand your comfort zone

When I post my previous blog on comfort zone, (https://womania99.blogspot.com/2021/08/leave-your-comfort-zone-if-you-want.html) someone asked me that why we push our self to move out of our comfort zone whereas we put so much effort just because to increase our comfort. I told her that the answer is in the question itself. You put so much effort means you are already moving out of your comfort zone to expand your comfort zone. Yes, when you leave your comfort zone, you are not leaving your comfort you are expanding it.

If you genuinely want to try something new but have some fear, follow these steps to break the shell.

Make your mind first

First of all, you have to convince yourself.  Ask yourself if you are ready to leave your comfort zone because you are doing this for yourself first. Can you be a little uncomfortable accomplishing your goals…if the answer is yes then go ahead.

Take baby step

It’s not easy to change your comfort level all of sudden. It’s a long way to go. You may have stress initially. So take small steps.  If you think that your habits are hurdles in your way and you want to change them, change them one by one. Similarly, if you want to adopt some habits, adopt them one by one. Remember it’s better to take small steps than do nothing. keep doing those things that you fear to do until you become comfortable doing them.

Set your priorities

If you will have confusion in your mind about what to do and what not or what to do first, you will not be able to expand your comfort zone ever.  So think about your priorities then plan according to them. If you do so you will never have second thoughts about your decision of leaving your comfort zone to achieve your dreams.

Set smaller goals initially

Set smaller goals in the beginning so that you may prevent yourself from unnecessary stress. If you expect big achievements in a short span, it would only demotivate you. So break your big goal into smaller goals as small goals are easy to achieve and these small achievements give big motivation to continue our journey towards our big goal.

Make a plan and practice honestly

If you want to live your dreams, create a plan and practice honestly to make it successful. It’s a continuous process so you have to be constant and honest in your action. When you plan how to deal with your fears or your negative thoughts and practice honestly according to the plan, you will get success. So just create a plan and be honest and constantly work on it.

Don’t overthink

If you overthink, it will force you to over-analyze your actions. Overthinking makes you frightened to move out of your comfort zone. When you overthink you begin to doubt your capabilities. Thus negativity overshadows your positivity gradually. So reduce overthinking.

Think about your dream

You can’t be motivated all the time. I love to write and grow my blogs but sometimes I don’t feel to write. But if I will write only when I feel like it, I will not able to achieve my dreams. On those days I think about my dream. I think about what will happen when I will accomplish my goals. That imaginary feeling fills me with more zeal and give me extra energy to keep going.

Know your capabilities

If you are aware of your abilities, it would make your way less complicated. On the other hand, if you doubt yourself, you will be less confident and hence you will shy away to leave your comfort zone.  Be aware of your passion, it will make you confident and you will feel less creepy while dealing with it.

Recall your experiences

You enjoy your current comfort zone but you were not always here. You tried something new, learnt from it and then expand your comfort zone. Recall that time when you accomplish your goal after did something beyond your comfort zone.  Your past positive experiences remind you that you have done it before and you can do it again.

And what if you have negative experiences…remember this quote of our former President A.P.J.Abdul kalam.

Don’t think about others

We often deprive ourselves of many things just to think about others. We feel ready to accept a challenge and we know that we can do it but one thing, which prevents us from doing something, is our fear of thinking about ‘what others may think of us.’ Dear friend, the one who will achieve or lose anything from what you will do is only you. Then why give others so much attention.

‘The ship is safest when it is in port, but that is not what ships were made for.’

This quote is enough to explain whether one should remain in his comfort zone or leave his comfort zone to expand it.

Staying in your comfort zone indeed limits your anxiety; at the same time leaving your comfort zone can lead you to a better life.
